Community Investing
On behalf of their shareholders, many of the investment management organizations included in ESG Managers® Portfolios, particularly the fixed income managers, invest in communities and promote sustainable development efforts both domestically and abroad. They may, for example, invest in debt instruments issued by a range of non-corporate entities, including government agencies, states and municipalities, as well as in community development financial institutions that target underserved areas and support affordable housing, small businesses, micro finance, community development and revitalization, health care, education and the environment.
The managers believe that such investments can often offer substantial social return — in addition to financial return — through the direct impact they have on local communities and in fostering sustainable development. A portion of the ESG Managers® Portfolios' fixed income allocation is focused in the area of community investing.
